Postpartum Resource Center Encourages Mothers to Seek Help
West Islip, NY — With the jury decision's today of finding Andrea Yates innocent by reason of insanity, the Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc. is pleased with the jury's decision. The organization continues to encourage mothers to seek help.
The Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc. is a member of Postpartum Support International and the Andrea Pia Yates Support Coalition. The Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc. has supported the position of Postpartum Support International for Andrea Yates (see www.postpartum.net).
"The outcome of the Andrea Yates trial has hopefully now begun to break through the stigma and ignorance of childbearing associated mental illness. We hope that more women and families will speak out and get to the help they need for pregnancy and postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. Mental illness is treatable. It is important to get informed and to proper treatment," states Sonia Murdock, Executive Director, Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc. and Past President, Postpartum Support International.
The Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc., is the non-profit organization providing emotional support, educational information, telephone support and healthcare and support group referrals to New York State women and families at risk for or experiencing a perinatal mood disorder. Community education, training and replication of the Circle of Caring perinatal depression support group program is available through the Postpartum Resource Center of New York's Training Institute.
