'We must fight for the health of new mothers to ensure healthy children and families,' says U.S. Rep. Rush

Conference: Pregnancy Complicated by Cancer
"Pregnancy Complicated by Cancer" A diagnosis of cancer during pregnancy effects one in 1,000 women. It is a leading cause of non-accidental death in women age 15-34, accounting for approximately 19% mortality. The diagnosis and treatment of cancer present unique considerations for women who are pregnant.

This conference is designed for all medical and human service providers who are interested in gaining a better understanding of the impact cancer has on pregnancy.
The conference will include speakers Elyce Cardonick, M.D. from Cooper Health System; Michael Plevyak, M.D., from Baystate Medical Center; Patty Murray, cofounder of the Pregnant with Cancer Network in Buffalo, New York; Fouad Sattar, MD from St Clare's Hospital and Pat Spencer-Cisek, MS, from the CR Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital.
The conference will be held on Monday, April 24, 2006 at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs, New York, The cost of the program is $30.00 with CME's, Nursing Contact hours, as well as Social Work continuing education units available.

Compelling membership promotions for mothers and girls are hard to pass up. Volunteers will be on hand to register 50 mothers for an eight-week MAAM running or walking program and 50 girls ages 8-18 for GoGirlGo!, a program of the Women’s Sports Foundation designed to educate girls about health risk behaviors and life lessons such as body image, bullying, diversity, smoking, drugs and stress.
